Well, this book comes with a very good reputation. And I was stunned by the neat and simple explanation of the concepts, well that was the fifth edition of course, but when I brought this I thought how different can it be, but it is this book is a lot less detailed. Some concepts are not even covered and again I had to buy the latest edition. This book is good, but please look at the edition.

2-Networking All – in – One For Dummies Paperback by Doug Lowe (Best GATE Preparation Books Data Communication and Networking 2021 ), Seventh (Editor)

Networking All-in-One For Dummies, 7th Edition, serves as the perfect beginner’s guide as well as the professional’s ideal reference book. Whether you’re in charge of a small network or a large network, Networking All-in-One contains every bit of information that is necessary to set up a network and keep it functioning. Minibooks cover essential, up-to-date information for networking in systems such as Windows 10 and Linux, as well as best practices for security, mobile networking, and much more.

You bought this for work. IP comms and networking are a big part of what we do to facilitate our projects. We have some amazing experts but it can often feel impenetrable for those who are accountable for the results. Also for new starters who haven’t “lived” the industry we are in.

This book is great. It sets expectations of basic IT literacy (ie using windows) and then takes you through all of the concepts from the ground up bit by bit. A few chapters in and you won’t be a pro but you will understand what’s what!

Yes, I’m sure it’s all available via web search but what I like about these guided introductions is that the writers know what you need to understand and in what order. Web searching is a minefield in this topic.

I got this book as it was a prescribed textbook by my University.

Best GATE Preparation Books Data Communication and Networking 2021

Yes, the book is quite fat and has a LOT of content in it! But I would like to point out that the author has explained the concepts very well! If you read through it, you won’t notice when you’ve progressed through the chapters. I have to say, that even for a beginner, this is a very well-written informative book!
The concepts are quite up-to-date and it is explained in such a way that even if you pick up a random concept from the middle without any prior knowledge of anything else, it is quite likely that you would clearly understand most of it without much effort!

On the negative side, I felt that the book is too theoretical and lacks a mathematical or practical approach. Otherwise, I don’t see any significant shortcomings in this book.

5-Computer Networks Fifth Edition By Pearson (5th Edition) Paperback by Tanenbaum (Best GATE Preparation Books Data Communication and Networking 2021 )
Best GATE Preparation Books Data Communication and Networking 2021
Best GATE Preparation Books Data Communication and Networking 2021

The book is an introduction to computer networking for those seeking information on various aspects of establishing and maintaining wireless networks. A computer network is a group of computers that share data over a wireless or cable-connected set-up. To establish a computer network one needs to be equipped with the basic guidelines that help to lay down complex networks.

The book places emphasis on topics of 802.11, 802.16, Bluetooth, paired and fixed coverage of ADSL, 3G cellular, gigabit Ethernet, MLPS, and peer-to-peer networks. The latest edition comprehensively discusses fiber to the home, RIFD, delay torrent networking, 802.11 security, internet routing, congestion control, quality of service, real-time transport, and content distribution.

Published by Pearson Education, the 5th Edition includes eight chapters that begin with the petite topics of physical layer, data link layer, and medium access control sub-layer. Tanenbaum gradually gets to the more intricate topics of the network layer, transport layer, and application layer where various concepts have been explained plainly. The book also explains network security to assist in creating a secure networking system between computers.

About the author:
Andrew Tanenbaum, born in 1944, is an American computer scientist who is a professor emeritus at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Known for being the author of MINIX, a UNIX-like free operating system, Tanenbaum is devoted to his teaching profession.

Computer networks by Tannenbaum is not exactly a study book but the treasure of knowledge explained simply. The author is trying to be friends with the reader. A simple example is oh…wait I will click a photo on it! Thanks, an author I brought it as a syllabus-prescribed book but you are awesome! The book has a lot of fun along with knowledge with it and sometimes the author is inspiring us and sometimes he even takes things seriously! One of the best authors I have ever seen! Guys don’t be reluctant to buy this book.

It is a good book to read when you have a lot of time but never a night before the exam since the author is very friendly he puts a lot of gen knowledge in it (surely not a con)but we have to search and find what is written in our syllabus under the main heading.

Best Book for Data Communication and Networking

I am a current online Electronic Engineering student taking a data communication class in my senior year. This book is seriously one of the better textbooks I have had in any class so far.

It is written so you can easily follow along. The example problems in the middle of the chapters are very helpful in the understanding of the material. The end-of-chapter questions and problems are also, very helpful(even if the numbering is a bit confusing at first). The tables and timing diagrams are easy to read. The background of varying protocols is explained well before introducing the newer versions of those protocols.

Most technical classes are necessary to learn with face-to-face instruction along with the textbook. In an online environment, this is hard to come by. And, honestly, sometimes I struggle with that setup. This current class is almost all textbook learning
and was/can feel confident of what I have learned from this book and I had very little previous experience with this topic.

Let’s be honest here, you probably will need to buy this book because it is the course required. Don’t worry, this book should get you through the class with minimal pain. I will be keeping this one on my bookshelf for a long time.

This book is printed on ok quality paper and the text is b&w and clear to read. It was in total around 918 pages

* Target audience, H.N.D, Undergraduate, Post Grad, Masters?

I think i.m.h.o this book is aimed at the first-year degree in computer science or more likely Information Technology related field and your first-year degree level.

* What’s the book like?

To my mind, this book is overall a reference manual to refer to and not a book to read linearly from start to finish. it’s nicely-designed in incrementing levels of complexity. Its Book 1 is introductory Networking Basics. Book 2 is usefully Understanding Network Protocols but not in-depth, Book 3 is Planning a Network. After this introductory stuff, this is, if you want to do this, do as I explain. It’s good stuff. Such as Hyper – V, VMware, Windows server 2016 within VM, and then using and implementing Linux and networking.

The book is interesting. Even when it just does this referencing and follows me. Such as how to establish networks and setup virtualization.

* Summary

If your willing to install pretty advanced – i.m.h.o – Networking improvements then this is a book to refer to. But the latter half of this book is designed mostly for reference and not to read linearly from start to end. Some of this is something you can enjoy reading but it’s a bit scattered around.
