                                                                  PART(A)

Q1-9 çarry 3 marks each and attempt any eight questions.

Q 1- What is drift in the context of instrumentation and why it occurs. What is settling time?

Q 2- What do you understand by the term resolution of DAC.

 A 4-bit R-2R ladder type DAC having resistor value R=10kΩ and 2R=20kΩ using Vref of 10 V. Find

 (a) Resolution of the DAC and

 (b) Vo for digital input of 1101

Q 3- Explain construction and working of Unbonded strain gauge.

Q 4- Explain the working and construction of Photomultiplier with a neat label diagram.

Q 5- Explain the working principle of successive approximation ADC with a suitable block diagram. 

Q 6- Give the thermoelectric series and explain its significance in designing a thermocouple. And also classify thermocouples on industrial standards.

Q 7- Derive the balance condition of Kelvin double’s Bridge.

Q 8- A simply shunted ammeter using a basic meter movement with an internal resistance of 1800Ω and a full-scale deflection current of 100 pA is connected in a circuit and gives a reading of 3.5 mA on its 5 mA scale. The reading is checked with a recently calibrated dc ammeter which gives a reading of 4.1 mA. The implication is that the ammeter has a faulty shunt on its 5mA range Calculate (a) The actual value of the faulty shunt, and (b) the current shunt for the 5mA rang.

Q 9- Explain the working of the piezoelectric microphone.

Q10-14 carry 4 marks each and attempt any four.

Q10- Define/state the following.

(i) Law of intermediate metal
(ii) Thermoelectric lines 
(iii) Neutral Temperature
Q 11- Explain the dynamic behavior of the galvanometer with a suitable diagram and derivation of all the equations.
Q12- With a suitable block diagram explain the different components of the Data Acquisition system.
Q 13- Draw a labeled diagram of LVDT and draw a waveform of the voltage at the null voltage.
(a) Primary winding voltage
(b) secondary winding 1 voltage
(c) Secondary winding 2 voltage
(d) Final output voltage
and explain the following terms for LVDT.
(i) Null point repeatability
(ii) Single axis sensitivity
Q14- Give the types of writing mechanisms in strip chart recorders.
 Explain the working of magnetic recorders with a suitable labeled diagram.
